At the beginning of the New Year 2021, THACO exports an unprecedentedly large batch of automobiles and spare parts

On February 17, 2021, THACO exported more than 200 cars and spare parts to Thailand, Myanmar, Japan and Korea. This is the largest shipment ever, including Kia passenger cars, buses and semi-trailers manufactured at THACO Chu Lai Industrial Park plants.

80 Kia Grand Carnival cars exported to Thailand this time is the 7th shipment THACO has shipped to its partner Yontrakit since December 2019. 120 Kia Soluto cars exported to Myanmar is the sixth batch of vehicles THACO exports to this market. Customers increasingly appreciate Kia passenger cars manufactured by THACO in ASEAN because of their quality equivalent to cars made in Korea, meeting global Kia standards and competitive prices. In the 2021 plan, THACO will export 1,480 vehicles to Thailand and Myanmar and expand to other markets, gradually realizing the goal of becoming a center for manufacturing and exporting automobiles and spare parts of Kia Motors in the ASEAN region.

For semi-trailers, this is the first shipment to Japan, which has strict requirements on quality standards. After many surveys and technical discussions on developing semi-trailer products in the Japanese market, appreciating THACO’s capacity, the partner cooperated with THACO to manufacture and export semi-trailers to provide for this market.

In addition to, at this time, THACO buses are exported to Thailand for VOLVO Buses Company – the world’s largest bus manufacturer under VOLVO Group. Meeting VOLVO’s requirements for technology, quality, safety, and competitive price; achieving the localization rate of over 60%, and meeting the standards and certifications in Thailand (for design, size, ECE certifications…), THACO bus with Vietnamese brand has been selected to import and distribute by VOLVO Buses. This shipment will start the plan to export 66 buses to Thailand and South Korea this year.

Besides cars and semi-trailers, a series of spare parts are also exported to the Korean market, including: Hyundai Santafe car seat covers, gear knob cover, condenser, specialized vehicle components with value about VND 5 billion ( USD 200.000).

In the context that the import tax on CBU cars within the ASEAN region has been reduced to 0% since the beginning of 2018, many automobile assembling enterprises in Vietnam have switched to importing and distributing, THACO continues to invest in expanding production, increase the localization rate, implement the export strategy to the region. In 2021, THACO will continue to promote export activities to existing markets such as Thailand, Myanmar, Philippines, USA, Japan and expand to other countries in the ASEAN region. Export sales of 2,500 vehicles (including nearly 1,800 passenger cars, more than 70 trucks and buses, and more than 630 semi-trailers). Export turnover of spare parts and mechanics is USD 30 million (of which spare parts and accessories are USD 18 million and mechanics is USD 12 million).
