THACO INDUSTRIES Strengthens Leaf Spring Exports to ASEAN and Global Markets
As one of Vietnam’s largest investors in the supporting industries, THACO INDUSTRIES continues to expand exports of automotive parts and components, with automotive leaf springs being one of its key export products. Through a joint venture and technology transfer partnership with Daewon Corporation (Korea) — a tier-one supplier to global automakers such as Hyundai and Kia — THACO INDUSTRIES has mastered advanced manufacturing technology and is now capable of producing leaf springs that meet global quality standards. In 2020, THACO INDUSTRIES’ leaf spring export volume was expected to exceed 5,100 tons.
THACO INDUSTRIES Builds a Smart Automotive Leaf Spring Factory
In 2015, THACO INDUSTRIES collaborated with Daewon to receive technology transfer and established the Automotive Leaf Spring Plant at the THACO Chu Lai Industrial Park in Quang Nam Province. The plant covers an area of 2 hectares and has a production capacity of 12,000 tons per year. Its production lines are equipped with advanced and automated machinery, including hydraulic cutting machines, coil-eye heating furnaces, ear-forming and wrapping equipment, taper rolling furnaces, leaf-end forming devices, leaf bending machines for both long and short springs, tempering furnaces, and shot-blasting & dip-painting systems.

The heat treatment process is fully automated and applies the same technology as Daewon’s most advanced global leaf spring manufacturing lines. Every product undergoes rigorous quality inspection to ensure that it meets both domestic operating conditions and export market requirements.
The factory operates a digitalized production management system through the integration of a SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) monitoring and data collection system, and an MES (Manufacturing Execution System) for production analytics and operation control. These smart systems enhance production efficiency and help reduce product costs by approximately 5% annually.
Expanding Leaf Spring Exports Worldwide
With core technology transferred from Daewon, the factory has mastered design, production, and development of a wide range of automotive leaf spring products for both domestic and international markets.
Using raw materials that comply with JIS G 4801:2011 (Japan) and designed and tested according to JIS B 2710 standards, the plant’s products achieve the same quality levels as those produced in Korea. With excellent elasticity, durability, load-bearing capacity, and smooth performance on diverse terrains, THACO INDUSTRIES’ leaf springs are widely used in trucks, dump trucks, buses, and semi-trailers.
Key product lines include leaf springs for light-duty trucks (Kia, Hyundai), medium-duty trucks (Ollin), dump trucks (Forland), and semi-trailer suspension springs. Both assembled spring sets and individual spring leaves are supplied not only to THACO GROUP’s manufacturing facilities and domestic customers but are also exported to Korea, Australia, Germany, Dominica, and other markets — with Korea being the primary export destination. In 2019 alone, the factory exported 2,200 tons of leaf springs and aimed to exceed 5,100 tons in 2020.

To meet THACO GROUP’s localization strategy and the growing demand of customers, the factory plans to develop new product lines, including heavy-duty truck leaf springs, parabolic springs, coil springs, and stabilizer bars. It is also investing in new R&D equipment to enhance its design and engineering capabilities.
As part of its strategy to expand both domestic business and export markets, THACO INDUSTRIES and Daewon are promoting the establishment of a joint venture company named THACO–Daewon Leaf Spring Manufacturing Co. The joint venture aims to become a regional production hub for ASEAN, expanding market reach and increasing export volumes to Korea, Europe, the Middle East, and South America.
In parallel, the corporation is strengthening its domestic market presence by supplying leaf springs within the OEM supply chain, developing products for the aftermarket segment, and expanding after-sales service both in Vietnam and across Southeast Asia.
